LMI is joining the federal government in recognizing National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), an annual awareness campaign in October. NDEAM educates the American people about disability employment issues and celebrates the many and varied contributions of America's workers with disabilities. This year's theme, established by U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy, is Access to Good Jobs for All.

The history of NDEAM traces back to 1945, when it started as a week-long observance focused only on people with physical disabilities. Later, it expanded to a full month and its name and scope evolved to acknowledge the importance of increasing the workforce inclusion of people with all nature of disabilities.

“Our theme in 2024, ‘Access to Good Jobs for All,’ speaks to our commitment to expand the number of employment opportunities for people with disabilities and the quality of those opportunities,” explained Assistant Secretary for Disability Employment Policy Taryn M. Williams. “Good jobs change lives and all workers—including disabled people—deserve the opportunity to prepare for success in high-quality, good-paying jobs in workplaces free of discrimination.”

Reflecting this year’s theme, throughout the month, LMI will be engaging in activities that raise awareness, build understanding, and show our commitment to an accessible and equitable work culture. These efforts include

  • a contest with the winner’s artwork incorporated into a new, company-wide Zoom background in honor of NDEAM,
  • participation in recruiting events to support people with disabilities, and
  • a series of educational articles on issues related to NDEAM throughout the month in LMI’s weekly internal employee newsletter.

“By tapping into the unique skills and perspectives of individuals with disabilities, we foster innovation, drive growth, and create a more inclusive workplace,” said Stephanie Anderson, vice president of talent acquisition at LMI. “We are proud to support National Disability Employment Awareness Month and remain committed to expanding opportunities for people with disabilities.”
