Tysons, Va.—LMI will apply cutting-edge analytic methods to enhance research and development (R&D) methods and improve lead time estimates for systems and processes, on a newly awarded contract with the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Logistics Operations (J3). This contract builds on LMI’s rich history with DLA, a partnership which has endured since the agency’s inception in 1961.

To counter the current reliance on only using historical data for estimating purchasing lead times, LMI will provide DLA with the tools to enhance data accuracy while seamlessly integrating that data into DLA systems. Implementing artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) models, refreshing data, and applying LMI’s Financial and Inventory Simulation Model™ (FINISIM™) will enable DLA to measure changes in key business metrics, such as obligation authority, inventory storage, and backorders, to better understand and improve warfighter readiness.

“Enabling our warfighters with the tools and equipment to succeed is paramount to force readiness,” said Jon Baba, senior vice president of LMI’s defense market. “Implementing AI/ML technology and LMI’s FINISIM™ solution in DLA’s systems will drive timely, intelligent insights for informed decision-making, improved readiness, reduced costs, and lower risks.”

Jon Baba, Sr. Vice President, Defense Market

LMI has nearly 20 years of experience implementing AI/ML technology in conjunction with LMI’s FINISIM™ solution to improve DLA’s business outcomes. The result is a robust tool that incorporates many standard forecasting and inventory control approaches as well as benchmarks to enable rapid comparison of alternative inventory control methods. Using FINISIM™, DLA will have an enhanced ability to track supply chain financial metrics by rapidly analyzing complex, large-scale inventory and financial systems and the interactions between them.

Since 2009, LMI has partnered with DLA R&D to create innovative solutions for more than 80 subsistence, acquisition, clothing and textiles, weapon system sustainment, and defense logistics information projects as well as DLA strategic initiatives, such as industrial retail implementation and enterprise data management. LMI was one of the first vendors to work with DLA R&D to test the use of advanced analytics like AI/ML to improve insight and data-driven decision-making.
