Wargaming

LMI is active in the wargaming community of practice involving military, educational, and commercial applications. Our highly qualified wargaming expertise and extensive knowledge of the future operating environment furnishes the subject matter expertise for planning, executing, and after-action support of joint, combatant command (CCMD), service, and other wargames.

The Department of Defense (DoD) has increased the frequency and application of wargaming to evaluate joint force development and design initiatives. With near-peer adversaries expected to achieve capabilities rapidly, uncovering gaps in strategies and their mitigations requires an aggressive analytic exploration, leveraging wargaming. The all-domain future operating environment challenges DoD to understand the subject matter and wargaming method at pace with its activities. LMI’s highly qualified wargaming expertise and extensive knowledge of the future operating environment furnishes the subject matter expertise for planning, executing, and after-action support of joint, combatant CCMD, service, and other wargames. We assess external wargaming activities, recommend appropriate support and participation, and synthesize results for understanding and integration into lessons learned.

Our wargaming credentials and experience support our understanding of wargame designs and alternative approaches for multi-domains. LMI has developed and facilitated tabletop exercises and wargames and participated as a CCMD representative or strategic deployment and logistics lead adjudicator at over 40 wargames spanning multiple strategic and operational scenarios. LMI is active in the wargaming community of practice involving military, educational, and commercial applications.

Using our understanding of the modeling and simulation spectrum, we enhance the effectiveness of analysis activities and clarify outputs. LMI’s logistics professionals, analytical tools, and modeling and simulation expertise serve as tremendous resources. Our Rapid Analysis and Prototyping Toolkit for Resiliency (RAPTR®), an example of our innovation efforts, benefits wargaming needs. RAPTR® provides an extensive, scalable architecture for modeling, simulation, analysis, and visualization for the space warfighting domain as well as cross-domain warfare integration. LMI has established relationships across DoD, agencies, and the Intelligence Community, creating a rich resource network.

LMI incorporates in-depth understanding of concepts and capabilities in wargames using our knowledge of the Joint Staff J7’s Joint Experimentation Framework and the role of the Joint Staff Analysis Working Group. This understanding guides alignment and prioritization of analysis in support of concepts and required capabilities development, facilitating benefits development for our customers. LMI develops and assesses future warfighting concepts (the Joint Warfighting Concept, U.S. Air Force’s Agile Combat Employment, U.S. Army’s Multi-Domain Operations, U.S. Navy’s Distributed Maritime Operations, and U.S. Marine Corps’ Expeditionary Advanced Basing Operations) and future-oriented service capabilities across all levels of classification to advance our customers’ missions.

LMI drives integration of CCMD equities in DoD’s wargaming and experimentation activities (Joint Staff, the Office of the Secretary of Defense, CCMD, and the services) through development, analysis, execution, and lessons learned, holistically addressing the mission set and priorities. We dedicate time and effort and encourage cross-directorate participation in synchronizing experimentation efforts, including studies, for greater analytic awareness while socializing outputs from activities with CCMD and stakeholders.
