Life at LMI

LMI is pleased to announce the winners of its first annual Small Business Awards. These awards recognize strategic small business partners—aligned to LMI’s defense, health & civilian, homeland security, and intelligence markets—that contributed significantly to LMI’s growth in the previous year.

The selection committee of Jon Baba, defense market senior vice president (VP); Marion Kennedy, intelligence market senior VP; Pete Pflugrath, markets & growth executive VP; Scott Recinos, homeland security market senior VP; and Zaki Saleh, health & civilian market senior VP, chose four small businesses that reflect LMI’s principles of leadership, mission focus, innovation, ethics, and integrity.

LMI honored this year’s winners at a reception at its Tysons office on April 27.

  • Jason Carter, CEO of UNCOMN LLC, a service-disabled veteran-owned small business (SDVOSB), accepted the award for the company’s role in planning and logistics on two mission-critical contracts for the defense market.
  • Joshua Riojas, CEO of Rios Partners, an 8(a) and SDVOSB, accepted the award for helping expand LMI’s presence in the Veterans Affairs portfolio, a health & civilian market customer.
  • Karl Gaskins, operations general manager of Cherokee Nation Strategic Programs (CNSP), an 8(a), accepted the award on behalf of CNSP for assisting LMI in securing incumbent work which transitioned to a small business contract after 15 years of supporting our homeland security market customer’s mission.
  • Tom Swerdzewski, COO of IT Concepts, an 8(a), accepted the award for the company’s transparency and partnership in helping LMI secure a position on a critical Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity contract with the intelligence market.
  • “Congratulations to the winners at our inaugural Small Business Awards ceremony,” said Doug Wagoner, president and CEO of LMI. “2022 was a big transition year for us, and we always go to our partners first. We’ve built strong, long-lasting relationships with all four award winners, and I anticipate future growth opportunities given our cultural synergies and integrated capabilities.”
