Ray Compton serves as a Fellow - Solution Architect and client RDT&E Subject Matter Expert (SME) at LMI, driving innovation in integrated solutions. He focuses on transforming cutting-edge technical concepts into sustainable and supportable capabilities, implementing advanced ideas across markets, and fostering robust collaborations with industry, academia, and government. With over 30 years of leadership and strategic experience, Ray has worked across all aspects of the acquisition lifecycle—from research and development to the production of complex systems supporting national defense. This includes managing one of the largest Army Acquisition Category (ACAT) ID programs, a multi-billion-dollar initiative providing advanced digital communications to Army units worldwide. As an LMI Fellow, Ray serves as a change agent for client-centric solutions by collaborating, integrating, planning, and aligning LMI’s services and strategies to deliver data-informed outcomes that address our clients' critical needs. Over the years, he has had the honor of serving on the Army Science Board (ASB), contributing to various Army, Department of Defense (DoD), and Congressional modernization initiatives. Most recently, he chaired the Data-Centric Command and Control (C2) effort.

Ray also supports LMI’s Applied Research & Partnerships by integrating innovative concepts at the nexus of technology and market dynamics. His recent work includes incorporating LIGER™ capabilities into the capture and proposal process and adapting RAPTR® applications for the medical domain. As an advocate for organizational culture and Corporate Citizenship, Ray leverages his experience as the former Chair of the LVETS Employee Resource Group to enhance outreach and engagement. He champions initiatives such as veteran support, promoting STEM as a catalyst for LMI’s data-driven digital transformation, and fostering partnerships with Historically Black Colleges and Universities/Minority Institutions (HBCUs/MIs) and other community organizations.

A retired U.S. Army colonel, Ray joined LMI in 2019 after serving as Chief of Staff for the Combat Capability Development Command (CCDC). In this role, he led a significant organizational transformation, shaping processes and structures to modernize the Army for the future.

Ray is Department of Defense Level III certified in Program Management and Science and Technology Management and is a member of the U.S. Army Uniformed Scientist and Engineer Program. He holds a master’s degree in strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College, a master’s degree in simulation modeling and analysis from the University of Central Florida, a graduate certificate in training simulation from the University of Central Florida, and a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Christopher Newport University.

In addition to his role at LMI, Ray contributes to the broader defense and innovation community. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Armed Forces Communications Electronics Association (AFCEA), the Advisory Council for George Mason University’s Institute for Biohealth Innovation (IBI), and as Chair of the Simulation Subcommittee for the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation, and Education Conference (I/ITSEC). His contributions include participating in multiple panels, such as the annual “Black Swan” event.
