Letter from the CEO and Board Chair

More than a century ago, Theodore Roosevelt famously said, “the best prize that life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.” This spirit rings true today, with particularly special meaning at LMI.

Last year was transformative for our company as we embarked on a journey to reenergize and refocus our business to better serve our government customers’ missions. This transformation focused on affording opportunities for our talented staff to work hard at work worth doing—serving the federal government and military. We lived our values of Leadership, Mission, and Innovation by working with our customers to ensure mission success, winning groundbreaking work, cultivating growth for our employees, and improving our business performance.

Our commitment to hard work and servant leadership is expressed by a collection of exemplary individuals who contribute to our mission of improving the business of government. Our annual report comprises their stories, which show our dedication to the work our founders set forth for LMI—“to provide government with the most experienced, capable, and creative business management talent.”

Andrew Miller, Grand Designer

The Grand Designer

Consultant Andrew Miller helps clients see the big picture–by drawing it. The onetime aspiring art teacher has become an impressive practitioner of graphic facilitation, bringing abstract ideas into two-dimensional reality—including LMI’s own mission and vision statements. “Art and graphic design are not isolated disciplines exclusive to ‘creative’ endeavors,” said Miller, who joined LMI in 2006. “They are a practical set of strategies, skills, and tools that improve the quality of complex solutions.”

For Advanced Analytics, It’s Twice as Nice at LMI

Data science senior consultant Stephanie Brown discovered a new path for professional advancement at LMI, her onetime former employer. In the steep competition for technical talent, LMI’s advanced analytics service line has benefited from “boomerang employees” like Brown, who always appreciated LMI’s culture but needed a different role in which to grow. The service line’s maturity in capabilities and customer opportunities has created a compelling case for ex-LMIers to return.

Helping the Best Become Even Better

When you’re ranked the best federal government workplace for seven straight years, change is not approached lightly. After NASA was tasked to develop an integrated human capital enterprise, its Office of the Chief Human Capital Officer turned to longtime partner LMI for support. “As NASA’s trusted contractor on this project, we’re honored to help set the standard in strategic communication and organizational transformation,” said LMI project lead Milasy Mugnolo.

Developing ServiceNow Expertise, Inside Out

LMI not only develops customized ServiceNow federal solutions—we’re also a ServiceNow client. Our Solutions Development Services group used the innovative cloud-based platform to drive LMI’s transformative initiatives throughout 2018. Now clients are benefiting from LMI’s “customer zero” expertise. “We tell clients, ‘We understand your business, and we found these challenges. Here’s how we addressed it internally. We can do it for you, too,’” says ServiceNow lead Andy Cooney.

Selman Sets High Bar

Selman Sets High Bar for National Security Team

John Selman had an eventful 2018, transitioning from vice president of LMI’s resource management division to vice president of national security programs. Though his new role involves different types of expertise, Selman has found more parallels than one might expect. “Helping national security clients is not much different from environmental clients,” he said. “They have things that need to get done; my role is to lead our team to help them do it.”
